Inter Milan To Start Contract Extension Talks With France Superstar Soon | OneFootball

Inter Milan are keen to tie striker Marcus Thuram down on a new long-term contract.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri will begin talks with the Frenchman’s representatives soon.

Over the course of his time at Inter, Marcus Thuram has become an absolutely central player for the team.

The 27-year-old made an instant impact in his first season at the club. He had a key role in last season’s Serie A title win.

But this campaign, Thuram has become even more important for the Nerazzurri.

As the Gazzetta note, it looks all but certain that Thuram will start against Juventus in the Derby d’Italia this weekend. He has shaken off a minor ankle problem he sustained against Fiorentina.

And Thuram’s availability for the Derby d’Italia has been greeted as a huge boost for Inter. That is a testament to how much he means to the team.

Inter Milan Keen To Tie Marcus Thuram On New Deal – Talks Soon

Considering Thuram’s role in the Inter project, the club are keenly aware of the need to secure his long-term future.

At the moment, Marcus Thuram is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2028. He’s on the same five-year contract that he signed when he arrived on a free transfer in 2023.

More pertinently, that contract has a release clause in it.

Thuram could leave Inter for a fee of around €85 million in it, per that clause.

That would of course represent a huge profit for a player who Inter signed on a free transfer.

However, the Nerazzurri have absolutely no intention of losing Thuram. Even if it’s for a fee of that size.

Moreover, the Gazzetta notes, a fee of that size no longer seems particularly beyond the pale for Thuram. So Inter are wary of the possibility of a major European club taking advantage of it.

Accoredingly, the newspaper reports, Inter feel that it is a priority to tie Thuram down on a new deal.

The Nerazzurri will begin talks with the Frenchman’s representatives in due time. But their priority is to have things reach an agreement at the end of the current season.
