Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti delivered a transfer update on sought-after Bologna starlet Santiago Castro.
Speaking to TycSport via FCInter1908, Zanetti discussed Inter’s potential transfer targets for the summer.
Javier Zanetti waxed lyrical about Tottenham Hotspur center-back Cristian Romero.
However, he admitted Inter’s finances would probably forbid them from bringing the Argentine star back to Serie A.
“It’s not easy, because we’re talking about very expensive players,” Zanetti said.
“The club’s sustainability is a challenge for everyone, and it’s a crucial aspect.
“Romero is, for me, a complete defender. I was just talking about him before this interview at lunch with some friends.
“Argentina has the luxury of having a defender who can play, who marks, who stays focused, and who is a leader.
“I really like him. He’s one of those old-school defenders.
“He’s essential for Argentina, and he’s shown it not just in every game, but in every decisive moment.”
Meanwhile, Inter star Lautaro Martinez had to withdraw from the national due to a muscle injury.
Needless to say, it was a great loss for Lionel Scaloni’s side, even though they thrashed Brazil 4-1 last night.
“It really weighs on him because he feels his commitment to the Argentine national team deeply.
“He would have loved to play against Uruguay, as well as this match, a classic World Cup clash.
“But these things happen. Injuries are part of our job. It happened to Lautaro, but fortunately, it’s not as serious as it seemed at first.
“Now the goal is to recover him for the final part of the season, which will be very intense for us.”

Santiago Castro has emerged as one of Inter’s dream signings for the summer.
However, the Argentine youngster is one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards.
Therefore, Inter will probably have to go to great lengths to lure him to the San Siro.
“First of all, Santi Castro is doing very well at Bologna,” Zanetti claimed.
“Honestly, every time he plays, regardless of the goals he might score, you can see that he is highly involved.
“Right now, he is a Bologna player.
“But I believe that top talents, especially young players, will always be on the radar of the world’s biggest clubs.
“They are young, have clear room for growth, and, without a doubt, we’re talking about forwards.
“That’s why many international clubs are surely keeping an eye on him.”
Finally, Zanetti commented on Inter’s quest to become the first Scudetto holders in five years to defend their crown.
“We’re there, we’re in first place,” Zanetti added. “Napoli is three points behind, Atalanta six.
“Beating Atalanta was very important. There are still nine games to go.”
“As I mentioned before, besides the league, we also have other commitments,” Zanetti continued.
“Two Coppa Italia semifinals – not against just anyone, but against Milan, our historic rival.
“Then, we have the Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern waiting for us.
“We need fans from all over the world, and we truly hope this is our moment.
“And we know the Champions League is a very tough competition.
“We have to face Bayern, and I think these will be two fantastic matches to play.
“Bayern is a club with a great tradition, with top-quality players, and it will be a very balanced tie,” Zanetti concluded.
