Renowned Italian economist Carlo Cottarelli has offered his verdict on the ongoing San Siro saga involving AC Milan and Inter.

During his recent interview with La Repubblica, as reported by FCInterNews, the 70-year-old drew comparison with Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu.

“They are renovating their dear and beloved stadium,” he said.

“It will be a completely different Bernabeu, refurbished, not new, but more. But always the Bernabeu.

“They are not leaving it. If the most important club in the world does it.”

Oaktree Capital Management sticks with the idea of building a new stadium in the San Siro area as a ‘Plan A.’

Meanwhile, Milan are reportedly open to abandoning the district in favor of their side project in San Donato.

However, Inter’s desire remains relentless.

Carlo Cottarelli Delivers Verdict On AC Milan & Inter San Siro Agenda

“I haven’t spoken with the clubs, so I don’t know the real reason behind their stance,” Cottarelli stated.

“But I give my judgment as a fan who also listens to other fans. I would continue to consider the possibility of renovating the current San Siro.

“It’s a home, the home of Inter and Milan fans. There was recently a project that confirmed the possibility of doing work during the season.

“WeBuild is a serious company, working worldwide. If they say it’s possible, it means there’s an opportunity.

“Sometimes it takes the courage to look beyond the immediate. Because history always has value.

“The location is important for its economic and emotional value.

“A new stadium there, with something of the current San Siro nearby, would give the project a whole different meaning.

“It’s a business matter, which is legitimate. The current San Siro lacks commercial space and the ability to host indoor events.

“Clubs need to be economically sustainable, and the stadium is key in this regard,” he concluded.
