Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin argues that, far from Inter Milan “lacking desire” against Juventus, they were “too hungry” in the second half.

Biasin gave his verdict on the 4-4 Serie A thriller in a tweet.

The Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus is certainly one of Italian football’s most important fixtures.

But it does not exactly have a reputation for entertainment value.

The Milan derby between the Nerazzurri and AC Milan is certainly a fixture that has produced some high-scoring, dramatic matches over the years, including recently.

But in the Derby d’Italia, there have often been cagey matches. 1-0 scorelines are not uncommon.

However, yesterday evening Inter and Juventus put on a spectacle that can rival anything that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have done in living memory.

Both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri held the lead at various points over the course of the Serie A showdown.

But in the end, it was a 4-4 draw for the two giants of Italian football.

Biasin: “Inter Not Lacking Desire Vs Juventus – They Were Too Hungry”

If there was a fault in Inter’s performance yesterday, it was their failure to really take the sting out of the game.

In the first half, it was understandable that the Nerazzurri wanted to play it at a high tempo.

Juventus have been a formidable defensive unit in Serie A this season. That’s putting it mildly.

Therefore, by forcing the issue Inter were able to expose more cracks than any other team in the league has in the Bianconeri backline this season.

But the failure to slow down the pace of the match once Inter had a two-goal cushion was something the team paid for.

“This idea that Inter ‘lacked desire’ seems like bullsh*t to me,” Biasin writes.

“Inter made a lot of errors,” he continued. “That’s obvious. But the opposite is true.”

“At 4-2 up they did everything they could to try to score again.”

“They didn’t succeed, and got punished on the counter,” Biasin notes.

“Rather than ‘not hungry enough’ (they had 18 shots!) they had too much hunger.”
