Lazio are still hoping to land Jacopo Fazzini in January, but Empoli have turned down the first offer presented by Claudio Lotito.
Following last summer’s major overhaul, the Aquile aren’t expected to have a busy January. Nevertheless, the club would like to add one more midfielder to the ranks, preferably a youngster under the age of 22, otherwise, they would have to omit one of their current players off the congested Serie A and Europa League lists.
In recent weeks, Fazzini emerged as the favorite profile, but the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement on the formula and figures. According to Alfredo Pedullà, Lazio are offering a package worth €10-12 million, while Empoli are holding out for larger figures.
The Tuscans believe their young midfielder is worth at least €15 million, but Lotito isn’t willing to raise his bid, which leaves the negotiations at a standstill.
As the Italian journalist explains, the 21-year-old only has eyes for Lazio, as he believes it would be the ideal destination for his career growth. He also feels he would be able to earn decent playing at Marco Baroni’s court.
However, Pedullà warns that Lazio must close the operation as soon as possible rather than counting on the player’s will, as things could rapidly change on the market. So while Napoli have yet to launch a concrete offer for Fazzini, they might decide to pounce on the Lazio-Empoli deadlock and sway the midfielder toward the Stadio Maradona.
