Defender Francesco Acerbi could already be fit for Sunday evening’s Serie A match between Lecce and Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Acerbi has had a tough time coming back from a thigh strain.
The 36-year-old picked up his injury in November. And while he had initially hoped for a relatively swift recovery period, it has been quite the opposite.
Acerbi has been on the sidelines for more than two months now.
Acerbi is not currently carrying an injury, per se, reports the Corriere. Medical tests have confirmed as such.
However, returning to the pitch after a long injury is always tough.
As the Corriere notes, there is also the potential psychological difficulty of playing after a long time out, and getting back into the rhythm of trusting the formerly injured muscle.
Therefore, Acerbi’s return has been a bit up in the air. He has worked individually to find not just fitness, but also rhythm and form.
However, that process has been going well.
Acerbi was not able to be in the squad for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Sparta Prague.
However, a return is not far on the horizon.
The Corriere report that Acerbi could even be in the squad against Lecce on Sunday.
