Manchester City take on Crystal Palace this weekend in the FA Cup final. It is a big occasion for Pep Guardiola’s side, given the significance of the Wembley showpiece, and it is the last opportunity for Manchester City to claim silverware this season.

After Saturday’s match, City will have only two Premier League fixtures remaining in their season. The summer transfer window is coming into view. This week has seen a host of stories emerge linking City with a plethora of players. It looks like the world champions will have a busy summer. But just how big could they go in the transfer market? Based on recent reports, this summer could be bigger than anticipated for Manchester City.

Manchester City have reportedly spoken to Rodrygo’s camp.

Sport Witness has relayed a report from Spanish publication SPORT that Manchester City and Chelsea have contacted Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this week. Furthermore, the Sport Witness report states that both clubs are waiting on a decision from the Brazilian international over his future plans. As per the Sport Witness report, Rodrygo is contemplating his future at Real Madrid.

Constantin Ecker and Paul Joyce have provided a further update for the Times on Florian Wirtz’s visit to Manchester City earlier this week. The Times reports that Wirtz and his parents, who act as his agents, met with City officials this week. The purpose of this meeting isn’t fully explained in the Times report. But the report from Ecker and Joyce is further proof that Manchester City’s bid to sign Wirtz could be further advanced than originally thought. Lastly, the Times report also names Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as a Manchester City target.

City couldn’t sign Florian Wirtz, Rodrygo and others this summer, could they?

This summer is shaping up to be a big one for Manchester City. Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain will continue the rebuild of Pep Guardiola’s squad that began in January. This summer looms as a crucial one for the club. If they get it right, City could set themselves up for next season and beyond. That’s what is at stake this summer.

So far this week, Manchester City have been linked with potential moves for Rodrygo, Florian Wirtz, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Tijjani Reijnders. Esteemed Kompany sources revealed earlier this week that City are confident of signing Reijnders. City also needs to sign a right-back and potentially a new goalkeeper. It’s hard to see them signing Rodrygo, Wirtz, Gibbs-White and Reijnders. That would take a sizable investment. Pep Guardiola’s squad doesn’t appear to need a winger like Rodrygo at this stage. Perhaps if a winger leaves the club that equation may change.

In the case of Wirtz, Reijnders and Gibbs-White they are players Pep Guardiola’s squad desperately need. Signing those three plus a right-back and a goalkeeper would represent a massive summer for Manchester City. But could they go even bigger and sign Rodrygo? I can’t see it at this stage, but the situation could change which would make it a massive summer in the market for City.
