Juventus Player Ratings vs Stuttgart: Perin Heroics Undone by Danilo Blunder | OneFootball

Juventus suffered their first defeat of the Thiago Motta era while putting on what was arguably their worst showing since the start of the season. Stuttgart was the better side at the Allianz Stadium but were denied by a string of spectacular saves from Mattia Perin who even denied a spot-kick in the 86th minute. But with Danilo getting himself sent off with two bookings in quick succession, the Germans pounced on their numerical advantage to break the deadlock through El-Bilal Toure in the dying embers. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who fell short at the hands of Stuttgart on the third matchday of the Champions League group stage.

Juventus (4-2-3-1)

Mattia Perin – 8

The Italian only started due to Michele Di Gregorio’s suspension, but proved to be more than a worthy replacement. Pulled off a series of magical saves, including one from the spot, but could do nothing against Toure’s close-range riffle.

Nicolò Savona – 5

The young right-back was suffocating at the back and clumsily gave away possession which could have easily resulted in a goal for the visitors.

Pierre Kalulu – 6

A mixed bag from the Frenchman who produced a series of vital interventions, but was also lackluster on other occasions. He could have arguably done better on the winner.

Danilo – 4

The Juventus captain did himself no favors with Motta who gave him a rare starting opportunity by earning a red card for back-to-back fouls, including one that resulted in a spot-kick. He was also slow to react to Deniz Undav’s movement on the disallowed goal.

Juan Cabal – 5.5

Not a bad display from the Colombian on the left, but he struggled when moved to the central role in the final minutes.

Khephren Thuram – 5.5

The former Nice player ran all over the pitch, but the midfield battle was a lost cause, especially in the first half.

Nicolò Fagioli – 5.5

The Italian was enduring a torrid evening until being paired with Locatelli in midfield. Although he had some moments of brilliance, Juventus fans were expecting much more from their beloved academy product.

Francisco Conceicao – 5.5

An underwhelming display from the Portuguese who found little joy on the right wing. Obviously didn’t learn his lesson about simulation as he still has a tendency to dive.

Weston McKennie – 5

A listless display from the American who’s obviously not in his optimal physical shape following a swift return from injury. He saw little of the ball and lacked his usual flame of energy

Kenan Yildiz – 5.5

The Turkish teenager had another forgettable evening on the left flank, as he couldn’t quite dribble past his markers or influence the match in any shape or form.

Dusan Vlahovic – 5

Though it wasn’t his fault, the Serbian hardly saw the ball for as long as he lasted on the pitch as his teammates failed to provide him with any sort of support.

Substitutes

Manuel Locatelli – 6

The Italian certainly added some much-needed composure and balance to the Juventus midfield following his introduction.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6

The fullback lit up the right flank alongside Weah.

Timothy Weah – 6

An obvious upgrade on Conceicao, as he managed to cause Stuttgart problems with his pace.
