Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is hoping to return to fitness in time for his team’s Serie A match against Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 26-year-old is a big doubt for matches against Lazio and Stuttgart but aiming to return against Inter.

Koopmeiners is one of a number of players whose fitness has caused headaches for Juventus coach Thiago Motta.

Motta will have to cope without Bremer for the remainder of the season in all likelihood. The Brazilian, who is the Bianconeri’s linchpin in defense, suffered a major ACL injury.

But then, the Bianconeri coach has also lost Koopmeiners for a spell.

The Dutchman suffered a rib injury during Juventus’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig. That was the same match in which Bremer had suffered his knee injury.

Despite the rib injury, Koopmeiners was able to start for Juventus in their last match before the international break, against Cagliari in Serie A.

However, the Dutchman had to come off at halftime.

It’s not yet clear exactly when Koopmeiners will be able to return.

The former Atalanta midfielder is not with the Dutch national team for the international break. Rather, he stayed back to focus on his recovery.

However, Tuttosport reports, it is far from uncertain that Koopmeiners can come back right after the break.

The newspaper reports that the 26-year-old is a doubt for the Bianconeri’s first match back from the break. They face Lazio on the 19th of this month.

Then, Juventus take on Stuttgart in the Champions League in midweek.

Koopmeiners is also a doubt for that European fixture.

However, reports Tuttosport, Koopmeiners does not currently look to be a doubt for the Derby d’Italia against Inter to close out the month.
