Mbappe says there is ‘no limit’ to what he can achieve at Real

Kylian Mbappe has declared his “adaptation period” at Real Madrid is over - and Manchester City can confirm that is most certainly the case.

Pep Guardiola’s side were dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday and Mbappe was their chief tormentor.

When the Frenchman is in that kind of mood there is little anyone can do to stop him, let alone an injury-hit defence like City’s.

Mbappe finished the game with a hat-trick and afterwards was bullish about what comes next.

“I didn’t want to come here to perform badly,” he said. “I want to play well, to mark an era and write history at Real Madrid.

“The adaptation period is over and I have to play with personality. I have no limits, but the most important thing is to win trophies.

“I’ve scored goals in my career, but I haven’t won many trophies. It is in my blood to score a lot of goals and win many trophies.”

Watching Mbappe on Wednesday, it is hard to argue with him.

Some players just look born to play for Real Madrid and Mbappe definitely falls into that category.

At 26, he is coming into the peak of his powers and his demolition of City felt like a statement of intent.

Great players have come to Real Madrid and used it as the place to define their career, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane two examples of that.

Mbappe feels like he is ready to follow in their footsteps and the scariest thing is that only now does he believe he has found his feet in the Spanish capital.

As “adaptation periods” go, 28 goals in 38 games is not bad going.

“He (Mbappe) has the quality to reach Cristiano Ronaldo’s level, but he has to work hard because Cristiano Ronaldo set the bar very high,” said Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti.

“Because of the quality and the desire he has, he can reach Cristiano Ronaldo’s level, but its not going to be that easy for him. He has to work hard.”

After making it through to the last 16 of the Champions League via the play-offs, no one will want to face Real Madrid now.

This win over City was a demonstration of the firepower they have in attack and their ability to deliver when the pressure moments of the season come around.

“It was one of the best games we’ve played,” said midfielder Jude Bellingham. “We were very comfortable from the start and the lead from the first leg goal allowed us to play like that.

“Everyone should be scared after what we’ve seen. We had the same confidence from the start and we didn’t care about the opposition.

“The amount of details in the matches meant we didn’t sit back, we put on a magnificent performance.

“Mbappe is very special, everyone knows that and he never stops proving it. We’re going to benefit from his goals.”
