LA Galaxy Get Their First Win

After way too long without a win in MLS, LA Galaxy showed up beating Real Salt Lake 2-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The night almost got shaky early on when RSL’s 18-year-old Zavier Gozo broke through on a beautiful pass from moonboy Luna, but Galaxy keeper Novak Mićović made a HUGE save to keep things level. Vanney made a bold call last weekend, dropping McCarthy for Mićović, and it’s paying off, as he helped Los Galácticos keep their first MLS clean sheet since December 2024. Yep, over six months without a shutout.
Then the Galaxy took control. In the 16th minute, Nelson drove down the left and found Matheus Nascimento, who let the ball run right between his legs, completely sending Quinton into another dimension before setting up Lucas Sanabria for his first MLS goal. Sadly, he was taken off at halftime with a possible injury, but Vanney says he doesn’t think it’s anything serious.
RSL were still fighting hard, and Gozo nearly pulled one back when he hit the post late in the first half. But then in the 55th minute, the Galaxy’s DP duo, Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil, FINALLY linked up. Pec danced past defenders, laid it off to Paintsil, who cut inside and got a lucky deflection before netting home his first goal of the season. That was the first time we saw Pec and Paintsil link up this season, the DP duo that was so scary last year finally showing what they’re capable of. Pec won’t get the official assist on the goal, but it’s all thanks to his dribbling and pass.
Galaxy controlled the game pretty much all night, but in the final minutes, RSL threw everything they had at them. Agada nearly pulled one back with a shot that smashed off the post in the 94th minute but then it was game over. When the final whistle blew, the relief was real. It’s their first win since December 7, 2024, 176 days without a W.

I’m giving it to two players. First up, Novak Mićović, the 23-year-old keeper who’s had his fair share of criticism lately but was rock solid today. Not only did he keep a clean sheet, but he was also incredible with his feet which was really what LA Galaxy needed for so long.
Then, the main man Gabriel Pec. No goals or assists on the stat sheet, but he won most duels (8!), created two huge chances, and basically set up Paintsil’s goal. Plus, he was tracking back, making three interceptions and two tackles. This is exactly what Galaxy need, forwards who work hard on defense, just like Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé do for PSG.
Now, LA Galaxy sit on 7 points but still finds themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference. Next up is a trip to Missouri to face second-to-last St. Louis CITY who grabbed their first win in 12 games yesterday beating San Jose Earthquakes 2-1.
