After a rough month between mid-December and mid-January, Lazio have found their groove again with a convincing victory over Hellas Verona followed by another dominant Europa League showing at the expense of Real Sociedad. The Biancocelesti have now guaranteed their spot in the Round of 16 with a match to spare, avoiding the play-off round.
Therefore, Marco Baroni’s men will be looking to take this opportunity to focus solely on the domestic front in the next few weeks. The Aquile currently sit fourth in the league, but they would want to avoid any slip-ups with Juventus, Bologna, Milan and their next opponents Fiorentina, all breathing down their neck.
After enjoying great success between October and November, Fiorentina lost their way at the start of December, failing to win any of their last six Serie A fixtures. They even settled for a disappointing draw in their last outing against Torino who were reduced to ten for the majority of the contest.
The Viola have dropped to sixth place in the Serie A standings, which remains a decent position. However, Raffaele Palladino will be desperate to end the skid as soon as possible, as the mood in Florence is far from pleasant nowadays.
