Liam Rosenior’s Strasbourg among the best in Europe in 2025 | OneFootball

From a side that had been a mainstay in the bottom half of Ligue 1 over the past few seasons, RC Strasbourg Alsace have come to life domestically this year.

Coming into 2025, Liam Rosenior’s men were 13th in the table, the same place they finished in the French top-flight a season ago under Patrick Vieira.

The new year, however, has breathed new hope into this squad as they’ve risen up the league table and been among the best clubs not only in France but also in Europe. The club from Alsace have picked up 54 points after 31 Ligue 1 affairs this season, their highest tally at this stage of the competition over the last 40 years.

A 3-1 victory over AS Saint-Étienne on Saturday extended Le Racing’s unbeaten streak to 11 matches domestically. This equals their longest run without a defeat in the French top-flight this century, dating back to February-April 2022 (11 matches).

Their 1-0 defeat at Stade Rennais in February is the only time this year that Strasbourg have come away empty-handed from a league fixture, as Ludovic Blas (27) netted one minute before the 90.

Only Barcelona and AS Roma have done better than Les Alsaciens among sides in the top five European leagues, with those two teams unbeaten domestically this year.

Strasbourg have found success through their youngsters who have stepped up with plenty of players 22 years of age or younger earning valuable minutes.

Next Saturday, they can set a club record for the longest Ligue 1 unbeaten run this century and earn their first victory over Paris Saint-Germain since December 2017 (2-1). Their form has them in the hunt for a UEFA Champions League place with only two points currently separating them from the top three and an automatic berth in the group stage of that competition. They are only behind a spot in Europe on goal difference.
