Liverpool have reportedly accepted an offer from Real Madrid for Trent Alexander-Arnold. Here's what's happening.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool at the end of the season but we don't actually know where he's going yet. Well, we do, it's Real Madrid, but nothing has actually been confirmed yet.
While part of that is Alexander-Arnold probably not wanting to confirm his next club during the season, there's also another very good reason. Real Madrid want to sign him but they'd much prefer to get him before his contract ends.
That's because of the Club World Cup. Real Madrid hope to win the inaugural edition and want new signings to make that happen.
Alexander-Arnold is one of those, along with Benfica's left-back Alvaro Carreras. The pair are expected to arrive at Madrid before the tournament.
However, that only happens if Liverpool agree to let Alexander-Arnold out of his contract early. Now that might happen.
Cope reports it's now certain that Alexander-Arnold will paly at the Club World Cup. Carreras likely will, too.
Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez goes further on Twitter, claiming a full agreement with Liverpool has been reached. He suggests Madrid will pay the Reds a fee and have agreed to take on the entirety of Alexander-Arnold's June salary.
That saves Liverpool around £1m, as well as the fee. It's a simple deal for the club to make, honestly, as they lose absolutely nothing in Alexander-Arnold.
