Manchester United are facing stern competition from Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres, but even Liverpool could pose a threat to Ruben Amorim’s ambitions.

The Portuguese manager is keen to sign a new bomber in the summer, especially amidst the ongoing struggles of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund which were once again on display against Nottingham Forest.

The Red Devils are being linked with a host of candidates, including Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike.

Nevertheless, many believe Amorim’s ultimate dream remains a reunion with Gyokeres who has been on devastating form this season, scoring 42 goals in as many outings.

But in recent days, several top football journalists, like David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, confirmed Arsenal have plunged in for the Sweden international.

According to A Bola, Gyokeres could prefer a move to North London, as the Gunners will satisfy his desire to play in the Champions League next season. On the other hand, Man Utd’s only chance of reaching Europe’s elite club competition is by winning the Europa League, as they currently lie 13th in the Premier League table.

In addition to Arsenal, the Portuguese reveals a host of other top European clubs who could thwart United’s hopes of securing the free-scoring striker. This even includes their old rivals Liverpool, as well as neighbours Man City, in addition to European giants Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

A Bola also confirms what’s been reported in recent days about a pact between Sporting CP and Gyokeres. The Lisbon-based giants are willing to grant the striker safe passage for an offer worth €70 million, thus casting aside his €100-million release clause.

However, the report suggests that the growing interest in the Swedish striker will only drive the price up, so the eventual transfer fee could be close to the aforementioned buyout clause.
