Liverpool Banter Billboards Add Insult to Manchester United’s Injury

Anfield’s Witty Swipe Sparks Title-Tinged Rivalry

Liverpool fans have never shied away from a bit of banter, and their latest jab at Manchester United has come wrapped in silverware. With their 20th top-flight title now secured under Arne Slot, Reds supporters are relishing the chance to poke fun at their floundering neighbours with a very public reminder.

The Anfield Wrap, a prominent voice among Liverpool’s fan media, unveiled a giant billboard perched near Old Trafford. Its message was unmissable: “Manchester, just 37 miles to the country’s most successful football club.” Posting the image on X (formerly Twitter), they teased: “A message for Manchester… and we’re never gonna stop.”

This wasn’t just a clever dig – it was a declaration of status. Liverpool’s latest Premier League triumph drew them level with United on 20 league titles, cementing their place atop the English game. With four games to spare, Slot’s debut season has been nothing short of sublime, and the mood in the red half of Merseyside reflects that.

Trophy Tally Debates Continue

As ever, discussions over total silverware remain contentious. Both Liverpool and United are often credited with 68 major trophies apiece, depending on whether the Community Shield is considered a “major” honour. Remove it, and Liverpool edge ahead. Include it, and it’s a draw. Either way, the rivalry has rarely felt so pointed – and public.

Misery Mounts at Old Trafford

While Liverpool soar, United stumble. Ruben Amorim’s side sit 16th, having suffered 17 league defeats and amassing just 39 points – a staggering 44 fewer than Liverpool. Their goal difference languishes at -11 compared to Liverpool’s commanding +46. Their last domestic win came way back on 16 March against relegated Leicester. Since then, they’ve lost five of seven and matched their worst-ever Premier League winless run.

That form has deepened Amorim’s frustration, with United fans enduring back-to-back seasons of domestic woe. Last year’s eighth-place finish was their worst ever in the Premier League era – but it did bring FA Cup glory. That kind of redemption might yet be repeated.

European Redemption or More Humbling?

Despite league chaos, United remain alive in Europe. Their continental campaign has been surprisingly resilient, dispatching Athletic Club, Lyon and Real Sociedad to reach the Europa League final. There, they’ll meet fellow Premier League strugglers Tottenham in Bilbao on 21 May. The winner not only lifts a major trophy but secures a place in next season’s Champions League.

But until then, the banter flows north from Merseyside, billboards blazing and tongues firmly in cheek.
