Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain made a move for Willian Pacho to bolster their defense, and this week against Liverpool, the Ecuadorian proved his worth on the road at Anfield.
Pacho played all 120 minutes in the return leg against the Reds, where he recorded eight clearances, two blocked shots, and one interception to help PSG record a clean sheet against the Premier League leaders.
The capital club secured Pacho for €40 million plus €5 million in add-ons for the defender, who signed a five-year contract, per RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins. Nonetheless, this move has proved to be a steal at that price as they now have a center-back for the next decade.
Liverpool was one of the clubs that PSG needed to edge to secure Pacho this past summer. While the Reds were first to push for the player, it was the Parisians who overtook them in this transfer race.
Journalist Bruno Salomon reports that Liverpool first noticed Pacho, who closely monitored him during the summer transfer window. However, Luis Enrique ultimately persuaded him to join the Ligue 1 side.
PSG moved away from the big money signings or bringing in big names and Pacho is proof that they made the right decision.
