Liverpool “make contact” over potential transfer move for 38 G/A superstar | OneFootball

Liverpool have reportedly made contact over the potential transfer of Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz.

The Germany international is one of the most exciting talents in the game, having been a regular in the Leverkusen first-team since he was a teenager.

Now 22 years of age and approaching what should be his peak years, Wirtz has an impressive record of 22 goals and 16 assists in all competitions for club and country this season.

It surely won’t be easy for Liverpool to strike a deal for this world class player, but it seems they’ve been in touch with his representatives to explore the possibility, according to David Ornstein of the Athletic…

Ornstein says Liverpool have made an initial approach to see if Wirtz is keen on a move, but it remains to be seen if he’ll realistically be open to joining a Premier League club, or if his preference might be to stay in Germany.

Wirtz might well be a dream signing for Liverpool, and just the profile of player Arne Slot needs to take the team to the next level.

But, the reality is that Wirtz will likely have a huge number of other offers this summer if he is indeed on his way out of Leverkusen.

Christian Falk has previously also written about interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, so LFC would really have to pull out all the stops to get in ahead of those two.

Difficult summer ahead for Bayer Leverkusen

Wirtz looks likely to be on his way out of Leverkusen, who were surely always going to struggle to hold on to several members of their squad.

Jonathan Tah is another to watch as he’s about to become a free agent, while there’s also another Leverkusen star being linked with Liverpool in the form of Jeremie Frimpong, as CaughtOffside understands talks over that deal are now at the final stages.

And of course, Xabi Alonso has also recently announced he’ll be leaving the Bundesliga club, with Real Madrid set to be his next destination, as per BBC Sport and others.
