There is no denying getting past Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 will be a tall task, even for an in-form Paris Saint-Germain.

Luis Enrique’s men won’t just be facing the leading candidate for the Ballon d’Or in Mohamed Salah (32), but also a manager who always seems to get his tactics right against French teams.

Arne Slot stepped into the shoes of Jürgen Klopp last summer and has been a success story as manager this season.

The Dutchman has them 13 points clear of Arsenal atop the Premier League table, while they have won seven of their eight Champions League contests this season.

In the League Phase of this tournament, Slot’s side faced Lille OSC, claiming a 2-1 victory at Anfield on that day. Slot has never lost to a French side in a major European competition, winning two of his three encounters against them.

He only failed to win in the second leg of their 2022 Europa Conference League semi-final tie with Olympique de Marseille. On that occasion, his Feyenoord team played to a 0-0 draw at Stade Vélodrome but advanced to the final 3-2 on aggregate.

This tie will be the first time Slot faces PSG, while he has yet to defeat a Ligue 1 side on French soil. He’ll get that opportunity on Wednesday when his side visit the Parc des Princes for leg one of that tie.

The only time these teams previously faced each other in a knockout tie was in the 1996-97 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final when Les Parisiens advanced 3-2 on aggregate.
