The former Dundee midfielder who has been impressive in his cameo appearances since arriving in the summer, does not see Aberdeen as a genuine title threat this season.

Celtic will face Jimmy Thelin’s side at Celtic Park in the first game back after the international break. It is a highly anticipated fixture with both sides recording 100% win records in their first seven games of the season.

Celtic’s best start since 2010 under Neil Lennon

Meanwhile, Celtic’s start to the league campaign is their best since the 2010/2011 season under Neil Lennon.

The Dons made it thirteen straight wins under their new Swedish manager and are 23 games unbeaten in all competitions. A tall order, but should they come out on top at Parkhead in two weeks time it would equal their best ever winning start to a league campaign (eight wins).

However, McCowan believes calls that Aberdeen can contest Celtic for the title are naive, “we’re only seven games in so sadly I can’t say they are. But after seven games, there are no title contenders. They will be saying the same and will be taking it each game,” the Celtic star said, as reported by Daily Record.

It’s about being aware and having the same mentality

“We know we have a tough game coming up. It doesn’t matter who you are playing, it’s always going to be a tough game. And in this league if you treat it any differently you are going to get punished. It’s about being aware and having the same mentality going into every game.”

26 year-old McCowan is part of the traveling pack for tonight’s friendly clash with League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers. Most likely, McCowan will be rewarded with his first start in a Celtic jersey. Displaying some fine domestic performances so far, building up a rapport with his teammates will only strengthen the case that he should be receiving more minutes when the Celts return from the international break.

Celtic in the Thirties

My Celtic Star colleague Matt Corr has been working on Celtic in the Thirties and the end products will be published early next month by Celtic Star Books in two beautifully presented hardback volumes. Pre-orders for the two books open today via The Celtic Star and I can’t wait to read both books about one of the most interesting and iconic decades in Celtic’s history. Just looking at the two covers gives you a taste of what’s to come. Best of luck, Matt!
