We looked at which Luton Town players are set to leave the club this summer and whether they should be offered a new deal.
It is set to be a nervous few weeks ahead for Luton Town as they battle to save their Championship status.
After suffering relegation from the Premier League last season, Luton were widely expected to challenge for an immediate return to the top flight, but it certainly has not worked out that way.
The Hatters became embroiled in a battle for survival after a poor first half of the campaign that resulted in the departure of Rob Edwards in January, and in an attempt to salvage their season, the club appointed Matt Bloomfield as their new manager and brought in a host of new signings.
After a tough start to his tenure, there have been signs in recent weeks that Bloomfield is starting to make an impact at Kenilworth Road, but he still has plenty of work to do if his side are to avoid the drop.
Regardless of the outcome of this season, Bloomfield will likely be facing a significant rebuild of his squad in the summer, and we looked at which Luton players will be leaving the club as things stand and whether they should be offered a new deal.
Goalkeeper James Shea joined Luton on a free transfer in July 2017 following his release by AFC Wimbledon, and the club activated their option to extend his contract for a further year in the summer.
Shea helped the Hatters achieve back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship in his first two seasons at the club, keeping an impressive 22 clean sheets in 46 appearances as his side won the League One title in the 2018-19 campaign.
The 34-year-old lost his place between the sticks in the Championship, and he has been unable to force his way back into the team ever since, but he remains a popular figure at Kenilworth Road, as shown by the standing ovation he received when he came on to make his Premier League debut against Fulham on the final day of last season.
Shea has spent much of this season as Luton's third-choice goalkeeper behind Thomas Kaminski and Tim Krul, but while he is a solid back-up option, there is little chance of him featuring for the club moving forward, so his departure would make sense for all parties this summer.
While Shea has played an important part in Luton's rise up the leagues, midfielder Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu's time at the club has been even more impressive.
Mpanzu initially joined the Hatters on a one-month loan deal from West Ham United in November 2013 before making the move permanent in January 2014, and he has gone on to achieve legendary status at Kenilworth Road over the past decade.
Luton were in the National League when Mpanzu arrived, but after being part of the squad that won promotion to the Premier League in 2023, he became the first player to go from non-league to the top flight with the same club.
However, Mpanzu's game time became incredibly limited in the first half of this season, and he was loaned out to League One side Rotherham United on the final day of the winter transfer window.
Mpanzu's performances at the New York Stadium are unlikely to be enough for him to force his way back into contention at his parent club, and after scoring 23 goals and providing 35 assists in 409 appearances for the Hatters, his time in Bedfordshire could be coming to an end in the summer.
Luton completed one of the most eye-catching deals of the season in the Championship in September when they signed winger Victor Moses on a free transfer following his release by Spartak Moscow.
Moses has enjoyed plenty of success during his illustrious career, including winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League with Chelsea, so he looked to be a statement addition for the Hatters.
Luton would have hoped that Moses could reignite his career at Kenilworth Road in a similar way to Ross Barkley last season, and the early signs were promising as he scored on just his second appearance for the club in the 3-1 defeat at Plymouth Argyle.
However, Moses has struggled to build on that goal, and having barely even featured in the matchday squad since Bloomfield's arrival in January, it seems certain that the 34-year-old will be released at the end of his contract in the summer.
