Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes is reportedly keen to leave the Ligue 1 giants after talks over a contract extension broke down, with Manchester United firmly in the race to sign him.
Shortly after arriving at United, head coach Ruben Amorim made it clear to those in charge that a new left-back was his top transfer priority, and it was around that time that reports of interest in a deal for Mendes first emerged.
Mendes, 22, made his name under Amorim at Sporting CP between 2020 and 2022, and RMC Sport state a bid has already been lodged to reunite the pair at Old Trafford.
PSG hope to keep Mendes and have been discussing a contract extension, but Mendes believes the French side are not offering him the sort of salary he deserves as a key starter and the frustration has grown to a point that the Portugal international wants to leave the club.
He is "not indifferent" to United's approach, although a January transfer could be complicated and PSG have not yet given up hope of convincing Mendes to extend his stay in Paris beyond his current contract, which is due to expire in 2026.
United have struggled at left-back for several seasons due to significant injuries to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, and it appears both players could be heading for the exit door as Amorim eyes significant reinforcements.
Reports have also named RB Leipzig's David Raum as a possible target, while 17-year-old Cerro Porteno left-back Diego Leon has already agreed a move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2025.
