Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David who is currently running on an expiring contract.
The 24-year-old is a Brooklyn native who started his career in Ottawa before entering the European scene through the gates of Belgian top-flight club KAA Gent in 2018. A couple of years later, he joined Lille on a £25-million deal, and rapidly established himself as one of the most consistent goal threats in Ligue 1.
This season, the 24-year-old has already contributed with 17 goals and five assists across all competitions. And despite his relatively tender age, he has already cemented himself as the best all-time scorer in the Canadian national team with 31 goals in 59 international caps.

For obvious reasons, Lille have been desperate to extend David’s contract, but to no avail. The striker believes this is the right time for him to make the jump to a more prestigious club, thus piquing the interest of a host of clubs in Europe. After all, who doesn’t want to sign one of the finest marksmen on the continent while his contract in running out?
Well, certainly not Man Utd, at least according to the latest report from Fichajes.net. The Spanish portal claims that the Red Devils are looking to secure the player’s signature for free by agreeing terms with his entourage in January, paving the way for his arrival in the summer.
Hence, this operation would cost the club comprehensively less than reuniting Ruben Amorim with his old Sporting CP pupil Viktor Gyokeres whose asking price is potentially north of £70 million.
Nevertheless, the source warns Man Utd of the stern competition for the Canadian’s services, especially from West Ham United who are also in dire need of attacking reinforcement, and have even enquired about Marcus Rashford who is potentially on his way out of Old Trafford.
