Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has taken responsibility for his poor club form this season, as his wait for a goal goes on.

Fernandes has failed to score in 10 appearances across all competitions for United this season, although he has hit the bar twice this term – against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

In addition to his goal drought, his performances in midfield have also deteriorated. Indeed, no player symbolises United’s underwhelming start to the 2024/25 campaign more than their captain.

The playmaker spoke to Portuguese media (via United’s official website) ahead of their Nations League clash against Poland and Scotland, and addressed his Old Trafford woes.

Fernandes said, “As for the club, I want to improve as soon as I get there, and make sure the goals start coming again.”

“I have to take responsibility for that too, because I’m a midfielder who scores a lot of goals, and over the years, I’ve always been at a very high level in terms of goals and I have to live up to that, with those expectations.”

“I also have my own standards, I don’t hold back on that.”

“I haven’t scored for the club yet and I hope that as soon as I get there I can score and help the club get back to winning ways and to a good level.”

Fernandes’ next goal will be his 80th for the Red Devils in all competitions.

Only five of United’s overseas players reached such a number. These five stars are Eric Cantona, Anthony Martial, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

United will be keen on breaking their five-match winless run when they return to action against Brentford next Saturday in the Premier League.

After Brentford, Erik ten Hag’s men will travel to Istanbul to meet Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce. Fernandes will not be available for that match courtesy of the red card he picked up in the previous game vs. Porto.
