Manchester United not only want to add a striker in the summer but also as many as two attacking midfielders to ensure no lack of service this time around.

The club have already confirmed the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and they are not done yet as plenty of reports have linked the Red Devils with a move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo next.

Landing the Bees’ ace will not be easy, as Arsenal and Newcastle also have their eyes on him, and after what happened with the Liam Delap deal, United do not want to be left scrambling for options.

Which is why, as per Tribuna, the 20-time English league champions have zeroed in on Tyler Dibling of Southampton as an alternative if they fail to land Mbeumo.

Tyler Dibling as Mbeumo backup

Jason Wilcox is a big fan of the 19-year-old, who had started the season brightly but faded towards the end as the Saints suffered relegation.

He managed four goals and three assists, but could not muster a single goal involvement in 2025.

At one stage, the team from St Mary’s were asking for as much as £100 million for their academy graduate but things have cooled down since.

And as per Tribuna, Southampton are willing to part ways with the England U19 international for £40 million, which would suit INEOS much more compared to Brentford’s asking price of £50 million.

“Manchester United have identified Tyler Dibling as a possible alternative to Bryan Mbeumo in their summer plans — with a deal likely to cost between £40m and £50m.

Will not cost as much

“The Southampton winger has caught the eye of United scouts after a strong season, and his profile fits the club’s push for younger, technically gifted players.

“While United have been tracking Brentford’s Mbeumo, his price tag and injury record have made Dibling an appealing option.”

United need proven performers at this stage and Mbeumo is much more ready to hit the ground running immediately upon joining. But the Gunners and the Magpies might have something else to say on this matter.

Which is why United keeping Tyler Dibling as a backup option makes sense.
