Serious question marks have been raised about Andre Onana’s suitability and Manchester United want to bring in a quality replacement.
The Cameroonian has been offered to Saudi Pro League sides, and only if an exit can be agreed can the Red Devils spend big to bring in a new goalkeeper.
As per The Mirror, the Red Devils have their eyes on Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin who has firmly established himself as his club’s undisputed No.1 since his arrival in 2023.
The 23-year-old kept 19 clean-sheets this season and apart from the 20-time English league champions, noisy neighbours Manchester City are also looking at the Ukrainian.
Termed as “one of the best goalkeepers in Europe“, the Benfica ace has a £74 million release clause but the Portuguese giants are prepared to sanction his departure for £30 million.
A source reportedly told the publication that The Old Trafford side would definitely have approached Benfica for Anatoliy Trubin had they won the Europa League, which would have meant a major cash injection.
Now, given the change in financial landscape, things are not looking as rosey. It must be remembered that Amorim knows all about him from his time at Sporting CP, so he could be pushing for his signature.
“Manchester United and Manchester City have significant interest in Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.
“The Ukrainian goalkeeper has a $100 million release clause, but Benfica is seeking around $40 million if it is to sell him, with both United and City keen on bringing him in.
“Sources say that United would have almost certainly made a move for Trubin had they won the Europa League final and guaranteed themselves Champions League football.”
United are eyeing a striker, now that they have missed out on Liam Delap, as well as two attacking midfielders, along with a defensive midfielder.
Only then will a goalkeeper be prioritised, and Onana’s departure seems key to any business being conducted. Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa has been linked with a move to United.
Apart from Onana, Altay Bayindir has also been linked with a return to Turkey while Tom Heaton could stay on. Radek Vitek’s future is also in the air, which means a goalkeeping revamp in the summer is on the cards.
