Sir Jim Ratcliffe has alienated a sizeable portion of the Manchester United fanbase since he took charge of football operations at the club.
His penchant for making questionable decisions has not found favour with many supporters, and he may be on course to make another howler.
Ratcliffe’s dream sign for the Red Devils is reportedly Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, who could be signed for £54 million in January 2026.
While the Red Devils desperately need to improve their attacking options, they must steer clear of the England captain.
Kane will celebrate his 32nd birthday this summer, and pushing out the boat to sign him makes no financial sense from United’s perspective.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has spent most of his career padding out his personal goalscoring statistics but has never won major silverware.
He will probably end that record given that Bayern are on course to win the Bundesliga this season, but United must resist the temptation to sign him.
Manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical system is based on high-pressing – a factor which makes Kane thoroughly unsuitable as a potential signing.
There are much better ways to spend £54m than flushing it down the toilet on a player who would demand an eye-watering salary to return to the Premier League.
Birmingham City are flying high in League One. They could give Newcastle United plenty to think about in their fourth-round FA Cup tie today.
