Manchester United are reportedly the latest club to show an interest in the potential transfer of highly-rated River Plate wonderkid Franco Mastantuono, who has been compared to Phil Foden.

While the 17-year-old attacking midfielder still has a long way to go to match what Foden has achieved with Manchester City and England, it certainly seems like he has a bright future in the game.

Sources have previously told CaughtOffside about the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid monitoring the €45m-rated Mastantuono, and it now seems we can add Man Utd to that list, according to the latest from EPSN Argentina in the video clip below…

Mastantuono certainly looks like the kind of signing the Red Devils should be going for at the moment as they look to smarten up their recruitment.

United have fallen behind their rivals in recent times as they’ve so often spent big money on flops who weren’t really the right fit for the club, or who joined when they were already past their best.

Franco Mastantuono transfer could be great business for Manchester United

Mastantuono, however, looks like the real deal, drawing comparisons with Foden from Yahoo Sport, and could be a great investment for the future for United or whichever club ends up signing him.

The Argentine is surely not going to stay at River Plate for much longer as he’s far too good not to be taking the next step up in his career and playing at the very highest level in Europe.

United fans will hope their club can win the race for this exciting talent, but at the same time it’s easy to imagine he might fancy the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or Real Madrid instead.

MUFC are not the force they once were and are enduring a difficult season once again, while the Gunners look to be on the way up under Mikel Arteta, and even Chelsea are starting to show signs of progress under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Both clubs have done well to bring in young players and develop them in recent times, but Real Madrid have also been particularly good at doing that with prospects from South America, such as Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, Endrick and Federico Valverde.
