Barcelona are in the market for a new attacker this summer, with coach Hansi Flick keen on adding more depth to his forward line. The club are especially targeting a leftfooted winger to ease the burden on Lamine Yamal and Raphinha next season.

Two names have emerged as serious candidates – Luis Diaz of Liverpool and Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.

While Barcelona’s interest in Diaz is evident, the club are equally keen on Rashford, who is seen as a more flexible and financially viable option.

Rashford to cost €40 million

According to a report from Diario SPORT, Manchester United are open to selling Rashford but have made their stance clear: €40 million or nothing.

The English club are not willing to let the 26-year-old leave for a lower price, even though internal talks have taken place between Rashford’s camp and Barça.

The report reveals that Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, met with Rashford’s agent in Barcelona recently.

The club have explored different ways to make the deal work within its financial limits – including proposals like a loan with an option or obligation to buy, or even a reduced upfront fee.

Recent reports even suggest that Barcelona are considering paying €5-10 million to loan the Manchester United forward. But nothing has worked so far.

Notwithstanding the financial hurdles, Rashford is reportedly eager to join Barcelona and is even willing to reduce his salary to make the move happen.

At Manchester United, he earns around €10 million net per season, a figure Barça simply cannot afford under their current wage structure.

In any case, with Man United holding firm ground, the move for Rashford could be put on hold, at least until Barcelona improve their Fair Play margins.
