Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has reportedly torn his anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for the rest of the campaign.

Martinez picked up the injury during United’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace on Sunday.

He appeared to jar his knee as he tried to turn and immediately hit the floor in agony. It soon became clear he would not be able to carry on.

United’s medical team stretchered him off the pitch, with the Argentine moved to tears as he was taken down the tunnel for further assessment.

After the match, Ruben Amorim expressed fears that the injury was a very serious one.

Earlier today, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are concerned Martinez could be sidelined for the rest of the season as he undergoes recovery on the issue.

Now an update on his fitness has been issued and it’s as bad as initially feared.

According to TyC journalist Gaston Edul, Martinez has suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his knee.

This information has been corroborated by Fabrizio Romano who wrote on X, “Lisandro Martínez has torn his ACL and his season is now over.”

This latest setback comes 12 months after Martinez sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee during a clash against West Ham United.

The problem saw him miss the majority of the Red Devils’ 2023/24 campaign.

He has been a key player for the team so far this term, racking up 31 appearances across all competitions. He has managed two goals in that period while also helping United keep eight clean sheets.
