Former Blue Mario Melchiot has revealed what he feels the biggest problem is at Chelsea right now, with the club on a poor run of form.

Enzo Maresca’s men started the season strongly, but are currently on a run of two wins from their last nine league games following Friday’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

The Blues have spent virtually the whole season in the top four, but have dropped to sixth after Manchester City and Bournemouth leapfrogged them over the weekend.

Melchiot explains biggest problem at Chelsea

Chelsea’s current form is a complete contrast to the free flowing attacking football the Blues were playing earlier in the season.

In December the Blues found themselves in the title conversation, but after missing the chance to go top following a goalless draw against Everton things haven’t quite been the same.

What’s most worrying is how big the collective drop off from the whole team has been, and it’s up to Maresca to find the solutions, with John Obi Mikel claiming it would be a disaster if they missed out on the Champions League.

Gary Neville feels the pressure should be on those above the manager, but right now Chelsea seem to have no idea how to stop their slump in form.

Melchiot has had his say and believes the biggest problem is the Blues are still looking to Cole Palmer to fix everything.

“You have to remember in every team when you focus on one individual that is that good, you need some other players to create danger,” he told ESPN as cited on X.com.

“It looks like they’ve put the problem at him and let him fix everything.

“I think that is where the biggest problem is at the moment.”

Palmer has once again been Chelsea’s go to man, and the 22-year-old has 14 goals and six assists in the league this season, but is currently goalless in his last five games in all competitions, a run the Blues hope will end against Aston Villa on Saturday.
