Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos is ready to face Premier League leaders Liverpool after the two European giants have been drawn against each other in the Champions League.
PSG needed to see off Ligue 1 competition in the form of Brest before booking passage beyond the knockout round qualification playoff, which they did so comfortably by a 10-0 aggregate scoreline across both legs.
But now a bigger test awaits, one which Marquinhos is up for given the quality and level of competition faced when aspirations of lifting major honours loom large.
Speaking with the club's in-house media, the 30-year-old stated "They're an experienced team in this competition. We're going to have to play two big games."
"In any case, this is the Champions League and we're playing against a big club. If you want to win it, you've got to have great encounters. We're ready for that."
Marquinhos also commented on the state of the squad under manager Luis Enrique on the back of strong form that has seen them extend the gap at the top of the Ligue 1 table to ten points, while showing the gap in class against Brest on the continent.
"I think the group has been getting stronger for a while now. I think it's really important to reach this stage of the season how we are now."
"I think for all the matches we are playing right now, we've got a great team."
PSG clash with domestic rivals Lyon on Sunday followed by a Coupe de France meeting with Stade Briochin and another league meeting with Lille in the run-up to their first-leg battle against the Reds.
