Chelsea are in the market for a new winger, with Mykhailo Mudryk suspended while battling his doping case. The Blues need a direct winger to provide competition for Jadon Sancho on the left flank.

Chelsea have a few players on their radar, and atop that wishlist is Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel. He is their top January transfer target. The Frenchman is a dynamic attacker and solves Chelsea’s current needs on the wing.

However, according to Phillip Kessler (via iMaSanMia), Tel is not keen on moving to Chelsea as he does not believe that is the best environment for his development.

Tel may not have received any minutes in the past three Bayern games but remains keen on making it in Bavaria.

The former Rennes star would rather speak to the management to understand his situation.

Chelsea might need to turn elsewhere as they seek reinforcement for their flanks, with Tel insistent on staying in Germany.

Consequently, Bayern have not been able to make a concrete move for Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku, a target for sporting director Max Eberl.

Chelsea also have Alejandro Garnacho on their transfer list and could try to hash out a deal with Manchester United. They might use Chelsea’s interest in their youngster to pip Bayern to Nkunku.

Chelsea need to turn to a new option

Chelsea are in dire need of a new spark in attack and should move for a player ready to take the Premier League by storm.

Going for a player who can’t get a look-in at Bayern and another making Man Utd fans age faster with his decision-making will not move the needle.

Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola is there for the taking after his fall-out with Luis Enrique, and Real Madrid forward Rodrygo might be available this summer, with rumours swirling that he wants to play on his favoured left flank.

Chelsea must be more ambitious. This project of buying players for the future needs to end now. The Blues need steady performers. Barcola and Rodrygo are proven quantities that can transform Chelsea’s attack.
