Middlesbrough are pushing ahead with a late deal to land Kelechi Iheanacho on loan
Middlesbrough are expected to be busy on the incoming front in the final days of the transfer window, and are making headway in a move to bring Kelechi Iheanacho back to the Championship.
That's according to the Northern Echo, who claim that Boro are making good progress on a deal to bring the former Leicester striker to the Riverside before the window shuts on Monday.
Boro are desperately looking to strengthen their front line with Emmanuel Latte Lath set to move to Atlanta United at any moment, which leaves a gaping hole in the their front line, one they're hoping Iheanacho can fill.
Michael Carrick is desperately trying to strengthen his squad ahead of the promotion run-in, with Boro looking good value to at the very least be in the play-off race.
Carrick seems to have identified Iheanacho as someone who can help aid their promotion push, and Boro have cracked on with thrashing out a loan deal with Sevilla to bring him to Teesside for the remainder of the season.
Talks between the two clubs are understood to be moving in the right direction according to the Northern Echo, and Iheanacho could well move to the Riverside before Monday's 11pm deadline.
It would be a real coup for Boro to sign the former Leicester man, who was courted by former boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, but despite them having the allure of Champions League football, it looks like the Nigerian may choose Boro.
Perhaps he feels like game time is what he desperately needs, as after his move to Sevilla, he's found opportunities limited, but at least with a Latte Lath-shaped hole in the Middlesbrough attack, he would more than likely be the club's number one striker.
Middlesbrough seem to have identified attacking reinforcements as what could be the driving force in their promotion bid this term, with Morgan Whittaker already through the door, and Samuel Iling-Junior set to follow him.
Adding Iheancho would give even more firepower to the Boro front line which looks frighteningly strong now, even with Latte Lath's departure, and in Iheancho they would be adding a man who has promotion experience, having won the league with Leicester last season.
That could be key for Middlesbrough, who have come up short in each of the last two seasons under Carrick, and will no doubt be wondering just what they have to do to get out of the league if they fall short this time around too.
