Vivianne Miedema has been shortlisted for January’s Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month award.
It follows a strong month for the Netherlands international who scored three goals in our two league assignments and four across our four outings in all competitions.
This began when she marked her return from injury in perfect fashion by netting our third in a 3-0 win over Ipswich in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
She then followed this up by scoring a week later, although we suffered a 4-2 defeat to Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.
With Gareth Taylor’s team plotting a route back into proceedings against Marc Skinner’s side, she produced a superb header to beat Phallon Tullis-Joyce from close range to pull us back into the fixture.
Although we were unable to collect three WSL points on that occasion, Miedema’s two strikes against Aston Villa in our next league assignment helped us to return to winning ways.
After the hosts had broken the deadlock, the forward equalised when latching onto a under hit back pass to coolly slot into the back of the net.
She then handed us the lead in spectacular fashion when she turned on the edge of the box and whipped a venomous effort into the top corner from all of 25-yards before further strikes from Mary Fowler and Jess Park helped us to the triumph.
Miedema faces competition from Chelsea’s Nathalie Bjorn and Millie Bright, Spurs’ Bethany England, Liverpool’s Olivia Smith, Manchester United’s Elisabeth Terland and Ella Toone and Leicester’s Julie Thibaud for the award.
Voting closes on Monday 3 February at 11:00 (UK), cast yours here.
