Manchester City star Bernardo Silva is concerned new Chelsea signing Geovany Quenda might take his place in the Portugal team.

The Blues agreed a deal earlier this month with Sporting Lisbon for the 17-year-old, which could be worth up to £44m.

Quenda will spend the rest of this season and next season on loan at Sporting, before linking up with his new team-mates in 2026.

Silva worried Quenda could take his place in Portugal team

Despite being just 17-years-old Quenda has plenty of first team experience and has already made 44 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing eight assists.

One of the crucial factors in Chelsea beating Manchester United to his signature was the chance to play as a winger instead of a fullback.

Quenda, who can operate on both flanks is expected to feature predominantly for Chelsea down the left hand side.

Although the teenager was called up to the Portugal squad for the March international break he’s yet to make his debut, but he’s already got Bernardo Silva concerned.

“He might steal my place [in the national team],” he said as cited on X.com

“It’s impressive how good he is at that age.”

Quenda has been compared to Rafael Leao and Bukayo Saka by one of his former coaches, and it’s the clear the winger is a really exciting talent.

Injury permitting, the Portuguese could arrive at Chelsea with over 100 appearances for Sporting, which given his age would be a seriously impressive achievement.

Along with Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez, Chelsea arguably have three of the best players in world football in their age group, and if developed in the right way could all become superstars in their own right.

Chelsea may have secured the signing of Quenda, but that hasn’t stopped them from looking at other young attackers, and it’s believed they sent scouts to watch 19-year-old Colombia talent Neyser Villarreal this week.
