Milan Not Scoring a Lot Despite Their New Fab Four

Milan zhuzhed up their frontline in January by adding Joao Felix and Santiago Gimenez, putting together an ensemble of stars including Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic. However, their gamble hasn’t paid dividends on the pitch for now, La Gazzetta dello Sport points out.
The foursome has played together for nearly three hours, producing a mere goal: a Malick Thiaw header on a corner kick. Sergio Conceiçao has often pulled the plug early on the experiment, taking out an attacker to deploy a midfielder.
Neither of the four Milan star forwards has been superb in the last month or so. Pulisic is playing through a nagging injury, Leao has always been intermittent and perceives that the coach isn’t a big fan of him, Felix hasn’t been clutch, while Gimenez needs feeds and the team to function well to score.
The Rossoneri have often struggled against clubs that parked the bus in recent years and they met a few lately. They rank seventh in the Serie A for offensive production, trailing also Lazio, Fiorentina, and Bologna in addition to the top-tier sides. They aren’t getting much bang for their buck considering that their forwards earn a combined €30M in wages.
The slightly reassuring part is that, when fielding all four, they haven’t been as unbalanced as they risk being, conceding mostly silly and extemporaneous goals. Plus, Felix and Gimenez have adjusted quickly to their new surroundings. On the other hand, they haven’t been able to overwhelm opponents as is to be expected with so much firepower. Still, it could be just a matter of time and chemistry.
