Napoli director Giovanni Manna stated that their initial goal wasn’t to compete for the Scudetto, but they’ll obviously try their best considering how the season has gone. He spoke up during the Maurizio Maestrelli award (via Corriere dello Sport).

“It’s a thrilling campaign. There are nine games left, and we deserve to fight for the title until the end. It’s an opportunity we have earned along the way. When you are in the running, you wish to go all the way. In any case, we have done something important but must be coherent with our journey.”

The Napoli official dished on the early objective.

“We aimed to finish in the top four, which is already a remarkable accomplishment. Now we’re vying the Scudetto after being in the lead for most of the campaign. We’re not yet a team built to win. We will try to improve our squad every year.”

Manna underlined that Antonio Conte was essential in putting together the project.

“We restarted after a complicated season, and the coach is a fundamental part of the plan. He’s decisive with his daily work. His history speaks for him. Our faithful resumed getting excited, which is our biggest satisfaction. From my point of view, the acquisition of Alessandro Buongiorno was the one that made me the most proud. It’s the type of player Napoli normally can’t reach. His will was key.”

The Partenopei didn’t exploit a potentially favorable round just before the break, sharing the spoils with Venezia while Inter bested Atalanta. They trail the Nerazzurri by three points and have won just once in their last seven matches.
