Napoli confirm their winger David Neres suffered a muscle injury in the final minutes of a Serie A match against Udinese on Sunday and according to reports in Italy, he could remain out of action for over a month missing a key game against Inter in March.

Napoli coach Antonio Conte will be forced to do without Brazilian winger David Neres for several weeks as the ex-Ajax and Benfica star has suffered a ‘distractive lesion of the semimembranosus muscle in his left thigh.’

Napoli confirmed the 27-year-old’s injury with an official statement on Tuesday.

“In the final moments of the match against Udinese, David Neres experienced muscle discomfort,” the Partenopei said.

“The Napoli player underwent instrumental tests today at Pineta Grande Hospital, which revealed a distractive lesion of the semimembranosus muscle in his left thigh.”

The Serie A leaders have not confirmed Neres’ recovery time, but according to Italian sources, including Gazzetta, Neres risks missing a crucial Serie A game against Inter at the Stadio Maradona on March 2.

Neres, in fact, could be forced to the sidelines for over a month.

The 27-year-old has become a regular starter at the Stadio Maradona after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s move to PSG in January.

Neres has 22 Serie A appearances for Napoli in the 2024-2025 season, scoring two goals and providing four assists. He has accumulated three goals and eight assists this season in 24 games across all competitions.
