Newcastle United could be set for a summer transfer battle as they join the race for one of Serie A’s standout performers.

According to CaughtOffside, the Magpies are keeping close tabs on Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, who is expected to move this summer following a stellar campaign in Italy. The 27-year-old has exploded this season, contributing 25 goals and assists across all competitions, and clubs across Europe are taking serious notice.

Among them are several Premier League heavyweights. Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool – and Newcastle – are all considering a move for the Nigeria international, with Lookman’s representatives preparing for talks in the coming weeks.

Newcastle’s interest comes at a time when Eddie Howe is prioritising attacking reinforcements, especially in wide areas. While Anthony Gordon has been exceptional, the squad still lacks depth and explosive options out wide.

Lookman, who once played for Everton and RB Leipzig, has matured into a devastating attacker in Italy and also impressed for Nigeria at international level. His current market value is believed to be around €60–65 million, which could be a significant outlay for Newcastle depending on summer outgoings and FFP compliance.

The club may also need to fend off interest from Barcelona and Juventus, though CaughtOffside report that both sides are facing financial hurdles that may work in Newcastle’s favour. In contrast, Premier League rivals have the spending power to match Atalanta’s asking price.

Newcastle have been looking for a player who can provide end product from wide positions. Lookman fits the profile perfectly – a direct, two-footed winger with experience in top European competitions and the numbers to back it up.

His ability to operate on either flank, cut inside, or even play centrally in attack offers Howe tactical flexibility. Whether Lookman would choose a return to England after his resurgence in Italy is another matter – but Newcastle's Champions League ambitions could be a major pull.
