Some interesting odds on Premier League top four (and other possibilities) for the 2024/25 season where Newcastle United are concerned.
With bookies taking stock after these Saturday results, including that NUFC win at Southampton.
Newcastle United now with ten wins in their last eleven games (all competitions).
Seven wins from eight in the Premier League.
That latest victory coming in the twenty third PL round of matches.
The bookies and punters reacting to how things now stand in the Premier League table (see below), as well of course, how they are now seeing the underlying strengths of the various teams and squads.
Listed below are the general Premier League odds now (morning of 26 January 2025) available from the various bookies for the 2024/25 season (in brackets are what the odds were after the very opening round of PL games):
Win the Premier League:
1/4 (13/2) Liverpool
5/1 (9/5) Arsenal
22/1 (11/8) Man City
125/1 (40/1) Newcastle United
125/1 (1,500/1) Forest
175/1 (40/1) Chelsea
250/1 (1,000/1) Bournemouth
1,000/1 (66/1) Aston Villa
So Newcastle United now rated joint fourth most ‘likely’.
At the very top, Liverpool even stronger favourites after predictably a comfortable win at home to Ipswich, with Arsenal seen by the bookies as the only serious potential threat, getting a fortunate win with a goal late on against Wolves.
This is how the Premier League table looks today (Monday 26 January 2025):
Premier League relegation:
1/200 (1/1) Southampton
1/7 (1/2) Leicester
4/9 (10/11) Ipswich
7/4 (7/2) Wolves
11/1 (5/2) Everton
14/1 (12/1) Man City
33/1 (20/1) West Ham
50/1 (250/1) Man U
66/1 (250/1) Tottenham
66/1 (7/1) Brentford
150/1 (10/1) Palace
200/1 (40/1) Brighton
500/1 (3/1) Forest
500/1 (200/1) Villa
500/1 (11/2) Fulham
500/1 (7/1) Bournemouth
500/1 (40/1) Chelsea
750/1 (250/1) Newcastle United
3,500/1 (2,000/1) Arsenal
4,500/1 (2,000/1) Liverpool
Eddie Howe’s team now seen as third least likely to go down in the 2024/25 season.
If you are wondering about the Man City 14/1 odds of relegation, this is due to the possibility (probability?) of severe punishment from the 115 Premier League charges they face, which could include amongst other sanctions, points deduction or even relegation. Still waiting for the outcome of that case.
Finish Premier League top four:
1/500 (1/2) Liverpool
1/33 (1/9) Arsenal
1/2 (1/7) Man City
4/5 (9/4) Chelsea
6/4 (9/4) Newcastle United
7/2 (100/1) Forest
15/2 (66/1) Bournemouth
10/1 (7/2) Villa
33/1 (11/1) Brighton
66/1 (66/1) Fulham
200/1 (2/1) Man U
200/1 (9/4) Tottenham
250/1 (66/1) Brentford
This is where, like me, I guess you will be giving most focus.
Can Newcastle United bounce back into the Premier League top four and get Champions League football?
Well, the bookies now have NUFC still fifth most likely after seven wins in the last eight in the Premier League, after that win at Southampton.
Newcastle United moving ahead of Chelsea in the table, just three points behind Forest as well now, level on points with Man City.
The bookies still making Newcastle United less likely to finish top four than Chelsea but that could change very shortly. Chelsea have now won just one of their last seven PL matches, picking up only six points from a possible 21, hopefully they can keep it going!
With Brighton losing at home to Everton yesterday, a bit of a gap opening up between the top seven and the rest.
These are the four remaining Premier League matches this weekend and a Villa victory would see them move to within one point of that top seven.
