No More Resting On Laurels – Inter Milan Coach Demands Statement Performance In Serie A Title Showdown Vs Napoli

Simone Inzaghi is demanding that the Inter Milan squad finally reassert themselves with a statement performance against Napoli.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInter1908, notes that the Nerazzurri need to finally take the chance to stop resting on their laurels.
Inter Milan have not manage to reach last season’s imperious form this time around.
That’s hardly because the team are not capable of it.
For long stretches of matches, the Nerazzurri can look every bit as dominant as they did last season.
But the team have also shown a complacent streak. They have missed too many good chances in attack, and switched off for long enough to suffer more dangerous counterattacks than last campaign.
Sunday’s Serie A loss to Juventus epitomized that streak. Inter were “unplayable” in the first half – but failed to translate it in the scoreline, and then dropped off in the second half.
Inter Milan are running out of opportunities to really put it all together in a statement performance.
But there is a huge chance awaiting the Nerazzurri just around the corner.

At the start of March. Inter travel to Campania to take on league leaders Napoli.
Last season, a 3-0 victory against the Partneopei was a clear sign that Inter were on course to win the Serie A title.
This time out, a similarly emphatic win would be even more important.
There is a sense that it’s inevitable that Inter will at least enjoy long spells where they make their superiority to Napoli clear at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
But the thing Inzaghi wants is for the team to put it all together for a full ninety minutes.
