Bild has confirmed reports from France that former Bayern Munich director and goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is working on buying into Bordeaux.
Whether Kahn will be part of an investor group or be in full control of the club is yet to be known but Kahn is working alongside former Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud over the deal. What is certain is the former Bayern chairman will have a management role at the club.
In December, the former goalkeeper is said to have approached Bordeaux owner Gerard Lopez about the terms of a possible takeover of the southwestern French side.
The former French champions are currently in the fourth division of France after being relegated for financial mismanagement. They have until the 21st of January to present a financial plan to help reduce their debt or they face liquidation.
Bordeaux have seen several Bundesliga players pass through the side with Anthony Modeste (ex 1.FC Köln and Borussia Dortmund), Salif Sané (ex Schalke and Hannover), Marc Wilmots (ex Schalke) and Klaus Aloffs (ex 1.FC Köln and Werder Bremen) all playing for the club.
