If one player has seen the highs and lows that football provides in Manchester City’s past two matches it’s Omar Marmoush. Marmoush missed a penalty in City’s 1-nil FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace. On Tuesday night the Egyptian international scored an absolute worldie to give Manchester City the lead in their crucial 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday evening. Both moments show what Marmoush is made of with his mental fortitude and talent.
Despite the contrast in those two moments what is becoming apparent is how dangerous a player Omar Marmoush can be. Once he properly settles into life at the Etihad he will be a lethal weapon in City’s armoury.
There aren’t enough superlatives to properly describe Omar Marmoush’s opening goal at the Etihad on Tuesday evening. The vision below says it all. But outside of the quality, the timing of the goal was crucial.
Manchester City had to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday evening. They needed an early goal to get on the front foot. Omar Marmoush provided it. The way he scored it was also telling. Marmoush was given time in the middle of the pitch. He assessed his options and let fly with a rocket. Marmoush saw his moment, and he seized it spectacularly. That speaks volumes about the type of player the Egyptian international is and the personality that he has.
The fact that Marmoush’s worldie came only a few days after his penalty miss against Palace shows his determination, mental strength and personality. He overcame the disappointment from Wembley to get his head down and get back to it. That attribute will set him up well for his career as a Manchester City player.
Since arriving at Manchester City Omar Marmoush has scored 8 goals and added 3 assists in 21 appearances in all competitions. He’s shown flashes of his quality, intelligence and versatility since arriving at the Etihad from Eintracht Frankfurt in January. It must be said that Marmoush hasn’t yet fully adjusted to life in Pep Guardiola’s squad. But when he does he’ll be a lethal weapon in City’s armoury.
But the Egyptian attacker has yet to fully learn the way Manchester City play. He also hasn’t learned how Pep Guardiola wants his side to press and all of the other nuances of Manchester City’s play. But in time, that will come for Omar Marmoush. When it does he’ll be a lethal weapon for Manchester City. His goal and performance against Bournemouth showed this, as has his start to life at Manchester City. All told, the beginning to Omar Marmoush’s career at City is promising. But it is more exciting to ponder how good he’ll be once he is fully settled in at the Etihad.
