An insight into the ongoing impact of Lionel Messi at La Liga giants Barcelona years on from his departure has this week been forthcoming online.
This comes amid the revelation that the Argentine still sells more Barcelona jerseys than all but two members of Hansi Flick’s current squad.
Messi, of course, brought a close to his legendary Blaugrana stint all the way back in 2021.
Since that point, the Catalan club have therefore not been permitted to advertise products featuring the name of the 37-year-old.
Fans, and in particular tourists, though, have long made use of a loophole to continue to recognise Messi’s iconic status at Barcelona to this day.
As per a report from Javier Miguel of Diario AS, the fans in question purchase a plain Barca jersey, before personalising it in-store with Messi’s name and number.
So common is this practice, in fact, that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner continues to sell more shirts than all but two members of the club’s current squad.
The pair in question? Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski.
