Orlando Pride vs. KC Current: The NWSL's biggest game in 2025 so far

Through the first eight games of the NWSL season, Kansas City and Orlando have proven to be the class of the league. The Current sit atop the table with 18 points, with the Pride a close second with 16 points. Both teams have displayed championship-level defense. Each has conceded just six goals in eight matches, tied for the best mark in the league.

Of course, the main appeal of their Friday night clash in Central Florida (8 p.m. ET | Prime Video) match is the attacking talent.

KC in better attacking form?

For Orlando, Barbra Banda and Marta have already combined for seven goals. Banda was the MVP of last year's NWSL Championship Game, not to mention one of the league's most dynamic attacking players. However, the Pride has been shut out twice in its last four matches and has just one goal over its last two.

Kansas City, on the other hand, looks like a well-oiled machine offensively after a 4-1 victory over Bay last week. A shutout loss to Seattle earlier this month is the only time this season that Kansas City hasn’t scored at least two goals.

Outside of that loss, Kansas City's attack has been almost impossible to stop. Brazilian international Debinha has arguably been the league's top player. And last year's Golden Boot winner, Temwa Chawinga, has four goals. On top of that, midfielders Claire Hutton and Hallie Mace have two assists each, playing a key role in Kansas City's offensive success.

Step up in class

However, KC's attack will face its biggest test yet with an Orlando defense that has picked up where it left off last year. The Pride allowed a league-low 20 goals in 2024 and in 2025 have held all but one opponent to one goal or less through eight games.

Heading into Friday's matchup, it's almost impossible to predict how this game will unfold. Given the attacking talent on each side, this could easily turn into a high-scoring affair similar to the 3-2 game we saw in last year's semifinals. On the other hand, both teams have been so tough defensively that it's also possible to imagine both teams struggling to find a breakthrough.

Either way, with so much talent on both sides, this is a must-watch for NWSL fans and could end up being one of the best games of the season.
