With recent speculation linking Spurs defender Pedro Porro to the Spanish giants Real Madrid, the defender himself has spoken about the interest in his services.

Currently on international duty with the Spain national team, for nations league fixtures against Denmark and Switzerland, the 25-year old said: “I am focused on my job. I am 25-years-old, at 26, I don’t know where I will be, football is like that, but I am settled in England and I have a contract until 2028.

My name and others are mentioned, my friends send me the rumours, it is a compliment, but I am focused on my club and the national team. It is the result of a job well done if one of the best clubs in the world is taking notice of me.”

The speculation regarding a move to Real Madrid increased when first choice right-back Dani Carvajal tore his ACL in a game back in early October. As a result of the injury, Porro has become the first choice right-back for the Spain national team, which will only increase the interest in him further.

Amid the interest, there has also been talk of Spurs looking to extend his contract, to try and combat the talk from elsewhere. As he mentioned himself, Porro has a contract until 2028, but football changes very quickly, as he also implies, so you can never be too safe when it comes to the player’s contract situation.

After a positive start to the season, his level has actually dropped a fair amount in recent weeks, with some implying that the external interest is playing on his mind and impacting his performances.

The right-back did register assists in the defeats to Galatasaray and Ipswich Town, though his general performances were not great. Hopefully a couple of positive performances with Spain can help get him back to his best at club level.

This week, the defender took to social media to address the fans, saying: “As a team we have to take responsibility for these results. We must come together to be better and will now look forward to coming back stronger after the break. The effort you put into supporting us must be reflected in our effort on the pitch and it is something we will never take for granted. See you after the break.”

Let’s see how this one develops. It is certainly not one you imagine will quiet anytime too soon.
