Manchester City supporters have been issued what appears to be a significant update on the future of Pep Guardiola amid interest from the Football Association.

Discussions over the long-term plans of the 53-year-old have intensified in recent days, amid a growing conversation in some quarters regarding a potential swoop from the England national team set-up.

Guardiola is now believed to be their number one target to replace Gareth Southgate on a full-time basis, having turned down the chance to hand the job to current interim and under-21 head coach, Lee Carsley.

However, there is recognition from within the Football Association that a deal for Pep Guardiola would be incredibly hard to complete, and as such may force them elsewhere while the Catalan weighs up whether to extend his Manchester City role.

And that is the latest feeling being discussed in a new report that will no doubt give Manchester City fans plenty of hope, with the most recent suggestion being an extended deal that will see Guardiola take his time at the Etihad Stadium into a 10th season.

According to the information of The Telegraph’s Jason Burt, Pep Guardiola could decide on his future next week, next month, or even next year, whilst it also remains entirely possible that he will leave Manchester City when his contract ends and take another sabbatical.

However, the report also quotes sources who have ‘tentatively suggested’ that the most likely scenario, at present, is that Guardiola signs another deal at Manchester City – albeit for just one more year.

Furthermore it is highlighted that Pep Guardiola himself ‘likes the idea’ of completing a 10-year period at Manchester City, whilst any extended stay at the club at this stage in his career is expected to be for ‘the shorter-term’.

When quizzed on the subject of his future, Pep Guardiola has largely remained tight-lipped and refused to answer any questions, most recently insisting on his love for the club but stating that he is yet to make a decision.

Speaking prior to Manchester City’s most-recent 3-2 win over Fulham at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola told reporters on his future, “I fell in love since the first day I was here. What is going to happen [with his future] is going to happen.”

Upon being further pushed for an answer, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich tactician responded, “I’m not going to talk about this subject. What is going to happen is going to happen.”

Pep Guardiola is set to sit down for another press conference on Friday afternoon when questions on his future are likely to arise, alongside journalists asking for his thoughts on Txiki Begiristain’s exit from the club in the summer of 2025.
