Late last week, it emerged that Florian Wirtz had agreed that his next club would be Bayern Munich. Christian Falk revealed the news in an exclusive report for CF Bayern Insider at the end of last week. That news did come as a blow to Manchester City in their bid to add more creativity to their midfield.
Now, a new report from Sacha Tavolieri for Sky Sports has shed more light on the situation. Based on Tavolieri’s new report, the battle to sign Wirtz may still be on, as Bayern Munich are aiming to price their rivals out of a move for the Bayer Leverkusen star.
Sacha Tavolieri reports for Sky Sports that Manchester City and Bayern Leverkusen had been in discussions for weeks regarding a potential transfer of Florian Wirtz to the world champions. But Tavolieri adds that Bayern Munich have now made the most attractive salary offer to Wirtz in a bid to blow away their competition for his signature.
Furthermore, Tavolieri reports that Bayern Munich’s offer to Wirtz is above what limit Manchester City usually sets for new signings’ wages. Tavolieri adds that there is a belief at City that no player should be paid more than Pep Guardiola. As per Tavolieri’s report, Bayern Munich has offered Wirtz such a huge salary to block City’s bid to sign Wirtz this summer. Sacha Tavolieri adds that Bayern Munich have subsequently put pressure on Bayer Leverkusen via the German media, which resulted in multiple reports stating that Wirtz had chosen Bayern Munich as his club.
Sacha Tavolieri further reports that Xabi Alonso is keen to bring Florian Wirtz to Real Madrid. But the La Liga giants aren’t willing to pay the salary Wirtz would demand. It is also reported by Tavolieri that Bayern Munich are pushing hard to sign Wirtz, but Manchester City aren’t out of the race just yet.
There is a lot to break down in Sacha Tavolieri’s new report. It appeared last week that Manchester City had suffered a major blow to their summer transfer plans. But now it seems that City still have a shot at signing Wirtz.
Interestingly, Tavolieri reports that Bayer Leverkusen would sell Wirtz for €100 million to a foreign club. They are demanding €150 million to sell Wirtz to Bayern Munich. That could play into Manchester City’s hands. But Bayern Munich are determined to land Wirtz at any cost. They look set to offer him a salary package that Manchester City won’t match. That may be their trump card in the race to sign the German international. The Bundesliga champions are also putting pressure on through the German media. That’s not a surprise given how German football typically works. Bayern believe that all of Germany’s best talents should sign for them. Their recent actions further illustrate this point. But Manchester City do have a good relationship with Bayer Leverkusen. Sacha Tavolieri’s report shows this. So City have a chance of signing Wirtz. They’ll need to convince him to take less money based on Tavolieri’s information.
Perhaps it will now come down to what Florian Wirtz wants to do. I’m still expecting him to sign for Bayern Munich either this summer or the next one. But Manchester City aren’t out of the race to sign him. That fact does stand out in Sacha Tavolieri’s new report that has emerged today.
