“Permanent transfer” incoming for Chelsea star with Bayern “monitoring”

Another day, another Christopher Nkunku rumour.

The striker has had a disaster spell at Chelsea really, spending most of his first season injured, then struggling to get into the team once recovered. Enzo Maresca has never really fancied him, and he’s seen limited usage outside the Conference League this season.

Nkunku almost out of the door already

Florian Plettenberg’s Tweet about Christopher Nkunku, claiming the attacker “will leave Chelsea this summer”

Things went from bad to worse a month ago when he was dropped from our squad entirely, and since then he’s been absent with a conveniently timed and rather vague injury problem. He has had his bags packed for months now, as one pundit put it.

Now top German insider Florian Plettenberg is adding fuel to the fire, Tweeting today that Nkunku “will leave Chelsea this summer”, with a “permanent transfer… not a loan” preferred by all parties. He adds that “FC Bayern are still monitoring his situation and remain in contact with his management,” although “nothing is advanced at this stage.”

“Other top clubs” are said to be interested too.

Chelsea’s dreams of a clean permanent deal could prove more difficult than hoped

We can well imagine that Chelsea and Nkunku would prefer a permanent deal, but as we’ve seen numerous times before, it’s not always that simple. While the club will likely do their best to hold out all summer until they get a deal they can be happy with, we could certainly see a Raheem Sterling type situation emerge where Nkunku has to be loaned out while his book value drops.

Hopefully the great form he showed at RB Leipzig before moving to Stamford Bridge will persuade someone to take a punt on the attacker.

Bayern would be an ideal destination – but given how stocked they are with attacking talent at the moment, we’re not sure how convinced we are by the idea they might swoop for the France international.
